Panels
Stitch graph:

Lets get started. The poncho is made out of two identical rectangular panels...
Using fingering weight yarn & 5.5 mm hook ( or desired hook/yarn combo)
- ch 61 or to 16 inches(to replicate my version)
or
- ch a strand long enough to reach your M1- ch st count must be a a multiple of 3 + 1
R1: ch 3 extra, dc into 4th ch from hook, *sk 2 ch, dc into next ch, ch1, dc in same ch(“v-stitch”)* repeat ** ⟶ to EOR, turn.
R2: ch2, 2 dc into ch 1 space, *3 dc into next ch space* repeat ** ⟶ to EOR, turn.
R3: ch3, dc into 2nd dc, *sk 2 sts, into next st dc, ch 1, dc* repeat ** ⟶ to EOR, turn.
Repeat R2 & R3 for
- 40 Rows
- or until the panel is ~ 24 inches
On final R of Panel 1 only: at EOR, only 1 dc in final ch1 space ( or in 2nd to last dc), ch1 & FO
Make 2nd panel, identical to the first but end final row as usual: at EOR ch1 & FO
First Seam

With both panels made...
Begin the seaming process,
- set the panels up in a“L shape”
Align the panels as shown:
- make sure to have the FO edge &
the starting chains in correct position
Seam 1:
*connecting the starting ch of 2nd panel to the side of
the 1st panel*
using same yarn & hook, start at begin here*
- insert hook to top right ch of panel 2,
& to the side of the bottom dc of panel
R1: ch1, hdc in the same space of both panels,
continue crocheting the panels together*, hdc ---> to last ch of panel 2
- * on panel 1: place 2 hdc per row
- * on panel 2: place 1 hdc per ch
ch1 & FO

Second Seam

Notice the first seam R has some dimension to it- this will be hidden as it will be the “wrong side” of the poncho.
- Make sure to make the next seam on the same “wrong side”- so both seams can be hidden-
Seam 2:
*connecting the Final R (FO edge) of panel 2 & starting ch of panel 1
- insert hook to the top right dc of the panel 2 (the dc right before FO*), & the top left ch of panel 1
*start at the star’s*
R1: ch1, hdc in the first st of both panels, continue crocheting the panels together*, hdc ---> to EOR

Neckline Scallops

The poncho is almost complete- for some extra detailing, scallops are made across the neckline of the poncho...
Using the same yarn & hook, attach yarn to the top edge of the back panel (center spot)- on the right side

R1: sc along the edge of the neckline ⟶ (2 sc per row*), to EOR, slst to first sc, do not turn
R2: ch1, sc in the same st, dc in next st, in the next st dc, ch1, dc, sc into the next st, continue repeating this four stitch pattern
1- sc
2- dc
3- dc, ch1, dc
4- sc
repeat 1- 4 to EOR, slst to first sc, FO.
Fringe Trim
Lastly, adding the fringe...
- materials needled: yarn, scissors, hook, 4.5in x 4.5in piece of cardboard*
- the length of the cardboard piece will be about the length of the fringe strands- make yours shorter or longer depending on your liking...
Fringe will be added along the bottom edges of the poncho
- placing one fringe into each of the “v- stitch” rows ( dc, ch1, dc rows)
- fringe only in these rows* ( rows with pink stars* below*)

To make a fringe, wrap the yarn around the cardboard 3 times- starting strand should be on the bottom, cut the yarn at the bottom of the cardboard, pull the yarn off - keeping it folded evenly, on a “v-stitch” row insert hook, pull center of fringe strand through “v-stitch” row, slst & tighten- Repeat for “V- Stitch row
